Hello, my name is James Watson, and I’ve been passionate about martial arts for nearly two decades.
I began kickboxing in 2006 at the age of 26 as a way to manage stress, and I quickly fell in love with the sport. In 2009, I earned my black belt in kickboxing and, in September 2010, opened Fitness Kickboxing Fergus. I coached and developed students there until the studio closed in 2017. I later continued coaching and training at CW Martial Arts Academy off and on until November 2025.
In January 2012, at age 32, I began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). After years of dedication, discipline, and countless hours on the mats, I earned my black belt in 2022 and received my first degree in May 2025.
Martial arts has shaped not only my physical ability — but my mindset, discipline, and approach to life.

My Training Philosophy
At Watson Training Fitness, my focus is simple:
Keep people training, improving, and growing for as long as possible.
Martial arts isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency.
It’s about showing up, putting in effort, and getting a little better every session. We all experience setbacks, small injuries, and challenging days. The key is learning how to adjust, recover, and keep moving forward safely.
That’s what real progress looks like.
Longevity matters more than intensity. Sustainable training builds confidence, resilience, and strength that carries into everyday life.

Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing?
Martial arts training is one of the most effective ways to improve both mental and physical health.

Physical Benefits
  • Increased strength, endurance, and mobility
  • Improved coordination and balance
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Healthy weight management
  • Functional movement and injury prevention
BJJ builds full-body strength and problem-solving under pressure.
Kickboxing develops power, conditioning, and explosive movement.
Together, they create a well-rounded foundation for long-term physical health.

Mental Benefits
  • Stress reduction through focused training
  • Improved confidence and self-discipline
  • Mental resilience under pressure
  • Greater emotional control
  • A strong sense of accomplishment

Training demands presence. When you’re on the mats, your mind has to focus. That focus builds clarity, calmness, and mental toughness that carries into work, family life, and daily responsibilities.
For many people, martial arts becomes more than exercise — it becomes a structured outlet for growth.

My Background
I’ve been teaching martial arts in Fergus and the surrounding area since 2010.
In 2023, I moved to Rockwood and am proud to continue sharing training with the local community. Over the years, I’ve coached kids, teens, adults, beginners, and advanced students.
One thing has always stood out:
Everyone grows at their own pace — and everyone is capable of more than they think.

Coaching Style
My coaching style is patient, practical, and personalized.
Whether you’re training for fitness, self-defense, confidence, competition, or simply to stay active, my goal is to help you build skills safely and consistently.
I offer:
  • Private and semi-private training
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Kickboxing
Training options include:
  • Outdoor sessions (parks, driveways, backyards)
  • My Rockwood location (safe and controlled)
  • Fergus location (mats and equipment provided)
  • In-home training (mats provided to create a safe space)
More than anything, I want people to enjoy training, stay injury-free, and feel supported.
When students feel safe, encouraged, and challenged at the right level, they stay consistent — and that’s where real transformation happens.
